Dear Reader,
ENCOMIUM, the annual techno - cultural festival of IEEE Jamia Millia Islamia was commenced in the year 2001, with an aim of providing students a firsthand experience of handling and managing an event and instilling interactive and managerial skills in the students, which is as important in today’s competitive world as sound technical education.
Today, in its ninth edition, ENCOMIUM is one of the largest techno-cultural festivals in and around the National Capital Region, seeing ever-increasing massive footfalls over the years. It has grown several-fold in magnitude ever since its conception, slowly transforming into an all Asia event over the past couple of years. We invite you to be a part of our annual extravaganza and contribute in making the event a grand success.
On 3rd and 4th October 2009
There are two types of competition. They take the form of an innovative idea or a poster design competition. A student may wish to take part in any one or both competitions.
All soft copies of the submissions are due by October 2nd.

INNOVATIVE IDEA COMPETITION
Come up with an implementable idea/project that can uplift a village. The idea should be in line with the theme on green technology and future sustainable development.
Report Guidelines
A report must be submitted detailing your idea and the relevance to the topic and theme given. The report should be limited to 5 pages, single spacing, Times New Roman, Font size 12.
The 5 pages does not include the compulsory abstract of the idea or the compulsory bibliography, and optional appendix and title page.
All participants should also be prepared with a 10 minutes presentation on the idea before the event which they will
Judging Criteria
Through popular votes and a panel of professors, the first, second and third prizes will be determined. Emphasis will be on ideas which deal with better management, conservation and harvesting of electrical energy in innovative ways. Credibility of the data will be checked before the prizes are announced.
Prizes
The final list of short listed applicants will each be given a certificate of appreciation.
The top 3 ideas will be rewarded with certificate of merit apart from the cash prize as follows: First Prize: INR 1500, Second Prize: INR 1000
POSTER DESIGN COMPETITION
Topic: Urban sustainability- conserving for the future
Come up with a unique poster that captures the given topic. The poster should also
incorporate the theme on energy management and conservation. Short listed posters will be displayed during the congress. Take a theme of a home or a university or a college. Think of the various possibilities of wasting power. Say be it your computer being on for 24/7, its heat dissipation and air con to cool it down; water heater left switched on; university lights being switched on round the clock etc. Think of a project along the terms of "Energy Management and Conservation" which is workable and implementable.
Alternatively, you can come up with "an innovative idea for electrical energy harvesting". For instance, solar powered highway blinkers which store energy in the sunlight and emit light at night. The idea should be workable and implementable.
Poster Guidelines
Posters should be A3 sized, the softcopy of which must be sent to the aforementioned email address, by the stipulated deadline of October 2nd. It is suggested that the student print and bring the posters. The participants are expected to print the posters and bring it along with them to the event. The poster should not have more than 30 words on it.
Each poster should also be accompanied by a hard copy 300 word description on how it creatively integrates the theme and topic. And a short report with the bibliography from where the data used in the poster was gathered. Credibility of the data will be checked before the prizes are announced.

GREENTECH INNOVATION
Topic: Rural sustainability- an outreach to the unreachable
Through popular votes, the winners will be determined. Both the topics will be evaluated with same importance with no priority given to either. The judging will be done on innovation, creativity, affordability and implementablility.
